Under 7

  • No minors under the age of 7 are allowed anywhere in the shop at any time
    • This is a clear and hard limit set by our insurance
    • Exceptions
      • Public events where all of the equipment is turned off and the resin printer is covered up
      • Special Board-approved group activities where all of the equipment is turned off and the resin printer is covered up

7-13 vs 14+

  • Minors aged 7-13 will be allowed on the Jumonville Side only, while minors aged 14 and over may go on both sides
    • A Minor Liability Waiver must be filled out for each minor by their parent or legal guardian when they arrive at the shop
      • Legal guardian is defined by the Board of HackPGH as “a person who has been legally appointed by the court to be responsible for the minor or, in the case of groups, an authorized representative who has received written permission to act in loco parentis”
      • For groups, a copy of our official Minor Waiver must be signed by the parent or legal guardian for each minor attending and submitted to the Board
    • Minors must be accompanied at all times by their parent or legal guardian
      • This means at all times, excepting while the minor is using the bathroom
      • If the parent or legal guardian needs to use the bathroom, they must either take the minor in with them or talk to another member about watching the minor for the duration so long as said member is not actively using another tool
    • If a minor under 14 or their parent or legal guardian is physically unable to use the upstairs bathroom, they may go through to the Watson Side, but all tool usage on that side must cease until the minor has left

Tool usage by minors

  • Minors will be allowed to use tools during classes as approved by the Board
    • Teachers may decide on an individual basis what the minimum age for their class is while keeping within the bounds of the shop’s overall policy of who is allowed on each side
  • Hack’s policy of only members being allowed to use tools outside of classes and Board-approved group events applies to minors as well
    • Individuals must be 18 years old to become a member
    • Minors may be allowed to use tools that are not powered such as sewing needles, sandpaper, staplers, etc
  • Teachers may decide on an individual basis what the minimum age for their class is while keeping within the bounds of the shop’s overall policy of who is allowed on each side

Exceptions

  • The Board may, on a case-by-case basis, make exceptions to any of these rules, especially in case of emergency
