ALL TOOLS REQUIRE TRAINING

In order to use any tools or equipment in the shop, you must have the proper knowledge of how to use them and exercise good judgement when doing so. Acting in an unsafe way puts members in danger, AND could result in a strike against your membership (see Rules and Regulations).

In addition, some tools require authorization before you use them because they are more complicated (e.g. the 3D printers) or have higher safety risks (e.g. the large CNCs). Even if you are already knowledgeable about the tool and can use it safely, you MUST demonstrate proper use to another authorized member before using the tool. The tools that require this sign-off will mention it on their individual tool page. If you're unsure about how to use a tool or if you need to be authorized, STOP! Reach out to the board and they will help you get the proper training and authorization.

Although there are efforts underway to improve the book-keeping of members' tool authorization, it is up to you to keep track of which tools you have been authorized on and provide documentation if requested.

Information about tool maintenance should be listed on the individual tool pages.

Training Opportunities

There are weekly tool training sessions, twice a week, on Monday and Saturday, from 8pm to 9pm (or check the calendar); there is no extra fee for this training. If these times do not work for you, contact a board member or inquire on the #general or #tools channels in Slack to ask for help.
