Announcements

The Board has five members!

  • If you have a question that any Board member can answer, please either post it on #asktheboard or send it as a private message to all five members (Sean, Jeremy, Beebo, Alisa, Morgan)
    • It’s OK to send a DM to a single Board member if it’s a very sensitive topic, but for general issues like dues payments please contact @board.

Jumonville door

  • It works again!
  • All new hardware and reader

Trash night

  • Since we’re not taking trash up to the curb for City pick-ups we can decide on our own night
  • Recycling will still be done on Monday nights
    • For the moment we will bring our recycling over to Alisa’s house while we figure out a permanent solution to what to do for recycling

Shop clean

  • Sunday, March 26 at noon
  • There will be pizza
  • Kirk Hendricks will be running the clean this month
  • For people who can’t come to the big clean but want to volunteer on their own time there’s still a sign-up list for what needs to be completed this month

Trash cans

  • If a trash can is so full that you’re heaping stuff in a pile on top, take the garbage out and put in a new bag
    • Since we no longer have an official trash night we can put stuff out any time we want

Safety glasses

  • If tools are in use on the Watson Side of the shop, everyone must wear safety glasses
    • This includes walking through to go to the bathroom or go out the back door
  • If you are about to use tools over there, make sure everyone is wearing safety glasses before you start
    • If you see people not wearing eye protection when they should, remind them to go put some on
  • We will be installing a rack by the back door so people coming in and out that way can be protected
    • If you see that we’re running low on either rack, do-ocracy the crap out of that and put some glasses away!

Treasurer’s Report

  • Bank: $6,200.53
  • PayPal: $215.61
  • Roughly 2/3 of our income is from membership dues, and the final 1/3 is from classes and donations
    • We’ve been working to better track our donations via our bank account info
  • Wild Apricot is a pain in the tuchus

Old Business

TEDxCMU

  • This coming Saturday
  • We don’t have a concrete timeline yet, other than that the overall program starts at 4 and our table will be open to people coming by at around 6:30
  • Anyone who wants is welcome to attend
    • Info will be up on the Slack
  • We want photos to put in a slideshow!
    • Finished projects and works in progress
    • People having fun at the shop
    • Events we’ve done
    • Section / tool photos
  • White table next to Soft Arts will have items that we’re bringing, so if you want to have your stuff on display leave it there with your name on it

New Business

  • Youth Policy
    • The Board is creating a codified written policy for where in the shop people under the age of 18 are allowed and when and what tools they’re allowed to use
      • Our insurance will not allow cover anyone under 7 entering the shop, and if we are in violation of that we will lose our insurance
        • If we don’t have insurance, our Board members can be found directly legally and financially liable for anything that happens in the shop
  • The full text of the proposed policy was read during the meeting; it can be found online here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1652JK0OPbflCfC_MJ8Hlz5nEV0T8P9rf/
  • Members will have until April 1 to comment on what we’ve written, after which time the Board will ratify an official policy that will be announced at the next Members Meeting

Member Questions

  • Rob: Is the new microwave set up?
    • Yes! It’s all set up and working perfectly!
    • It runs at 1500 W while a standard microwave is 1200 W so please take that into account before burning your popcorn
    • Andrew has graciously allowed us to do whatever we want with his little 700 W microwave
