Shop Projects / Updates

  • Power wheels
    • New project... Autonomous power wheels racer!
    • This will be in addition to the Hack to Future
      • Racing at NYC Maker Faire separate from power wheels race
      • Right now its HackPgh vs Microsoft
      • Let Eli know if you want to work on it
      • Next meeting 6/29,7pm, Also after ROS meeting 6/25
  • CNC Router
    • End stops are here.
    • Talk to Bob, Chad, Alex to learn to use it
  • Laser Cutter
    • 55mm lens installed, its awesome!
    • Bed is Level!
    • Out of stock for chiller, Waiting patiently for it to come back in stock.
      • Must use purchased ice due to the water from the ice goes thru the laser.
  • 3-D Printer
    • Currently down
    • Waiting for Recommendation for extruder head.
      • Can we fix one of the clogged ones from the other 3D Printer?
    • We got a second 3d printer!
      • It needs some repair
    • If you want a private class see Eli, Alex, or Chad.


  • Foundry project by Alex and Wesley
    • Waiting for Alex to get build list sent to us.
    • Waiting on Alex to bring in his kiln for shop use.
  • Server
    • Updates?
      • Need someone with windows, linux, mac to test it
  • Open Source Brewing
    • Updates?
      • Turn former server closet area into fermentation area?
      • Needs to be 60 degrees F (+-)5 degrees, cooler is better

Old Business

  • Sign Ideas
    • Chad took the photo.
    • Gene will be sending that out so people can post their ideas. (As soon as he finds where he put the file!)

  • Move members meetings from Wed to another day?
    • Geno will put it up to vote on SurveyMonkey
    • Results?
      • 8 people voted. 75% of people want to keep the meeting on Wed @ 7:30pm
      • Other popular days seem to be Monday, Tuesday,Saturday @ 7:30pm
      • Geno will send a reminder to the list to get more people to vote
      • Then possibly send another survey with Mon, Tue, Wed, Sat as the possible dates from results of last survey
  • Pittsburgh and Detroit Maker Faire
    • Think of projects to display at either or both.
    • Detroit Faire is July 24-26
      • We need to see who is going... Like ASAP.
      • Powerwheels appearing to be pushed by Locomotive.
      • We will not show projects
      • We need to know who is going to Detroit Maker Faire for power wheels ASAP
      • Need to figure out hotels ASAP
    • Pittsburgh Maker Faire October 10 and 11.
      • The call for maker is out! GOTO makerfairepittsburgh.com!
      • HackPGH will have a booth with shop projects. You still need to register!
  • Lets talk about making the space more inviting and nice.
    • Use lift to put Power Wheels out of the way.
    • More whiteboard space
    • Labeling the workstations, 3d printer, laser cutter, wifi password
    • Want to clean something and make shop better? DO IT!

New Business

  • Things to do for volunteer hours
    • Will be on whiteboard
    • Going to hold people more accountable.
  • We need to get rid of some stuff here at the shop.
    • ATM?
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Dismantle Tar and Feather machine and store.
  • Shop Clean
    • Lets pick a date... Sooner is better than later.
    • 6/28 12-5pm
  • Crafts area
    • Needs to be more attractive and organized
    • We should be able to show it off
  • Grizzly g1007 Mill/Drill machine for sale
    • Can do lateral cutting
    • Would be excellent addition to shop
    • $900
    • In Dubois PA
    • We need more information about it
    • We need a lot of space for it
    • Replace small drill press with it to make space
    • Alex will go there this weekend and take a look at it
  • 2nd power wheels car in addition to Delorean
    • Internal HackPgh competition
    • Have the shop fund the cars?
