COVID and TOURS

• Allegheny County is still "green", despite a large resurgence in COVID cases. Our commitment to member safety is absolutely paramount.
  • Everyone will be required to maintain 6 ft of distance, wear masks, hand wash, etc.
  • We will now be allowing ten people in the dirty side of the shop, and ten people on the "clean" side of the shop.
• We need to put up new laminated signs outside the doors.
• Please use Skedda for reservations.
  • You do not have to reserve space for the conference tables and the lounge.
  • Tours are still by appointment only. Please sign up to help the Board out!
• The five sanitation kits are being used often! YAY! Becky has obtained

Shop news

• We are in the process of looking into getting a dumpster for the shop.
• Josh Inklovich would like to bring in young adults and obtain a grant (possibly fulfilling the grant obligation of the McAuley Ministries Grants)
• Alex would like to crowdfund the Anycubic MonoX resin printer. It's on sale currently for $580.
  • We have run into restrictions with our current resin printers and this new would would allow us to do much more.
  • The Foam & Fiber Group have run into the same restrictions and are interested in raising money for this printer.
• Classes. WE NEED THEM.
  • We have several teachers who want to teach classes:
    • Welding (Paul and Kiefer are excited to teach, and both teach different types of welding)
    • Cassie's woodworking class
    • Asher wants to teach several classes
    • CPR/AED/First Aid
  • We are looking into offering virtual classe`s for topics such as arduinos and computer-building.
• The new 3D printer (donated!) is up and running!
• The laser tube arrived last week. In PIECES. Insurance covered it, so we are awaiting shipping information. So far we haven't received any updates.
• SHOP CLEAN: The next shop clean is going to be on Sunday, September 27th. We want to focus on cleaning and organizing the storage room as well as the back of the metal shop.
  • For social distancing purposes, we want to cap EACH group at four to six people. Please email or tag the board if you'd like to volunteer/participate.
• Printing limits will be imposed. Probably a daily 50pp cap.

Shop finances

• We have exactly $6460.90 (including PayPal funds and our bank account)
• Thank you for those who have donated anything, laser tube or general.
  • Becky still wants to hold some sort of creative fundraiser. Even a "small" goal of $1,000 would be a great help.
• HackPGH will still be operating on a restricted budget where possible.
  • However, the shop is completely stocked! This includes food, drink, bottled water, and cleaning supplies. This came at no cost to the shop. It was donated by the Zajdel family and their friends at Tyler Mountain Spring Water.
• Grants
  • Josh Inklovich has ideas for a partnership to help young adults
  • Becky applied for Awesome Pittsburgh Grant
  • Becky is going to pick up our HUGE winning Costco "grant" winnings.
• Social Media
  • We need to boost up our SM presence
    • Encouraging people to take pictures of stuff their projects to add to our website and Instagram
    • Also, make an Instagram
    • Patreon?
    • Filming some videos of tools

Rule Reminders

• Laser cutter use and misuse
  • Laser time MUST be both paid for AND logged in the paper log on the laser desk.
  • Skedda scheduling is not matching up with the payments, less than 50% of laser time is being paid for.
    • We will be erecting a large sign reminding members about laser rules. If necessary, we will put a RFID lock & payment system on the laser.
• Children aged seven and under are NOT allowed in the shop, even with a parent or guardian. This is for their safety and for the good of the organization, as it allows us to keep our insurance.
• Garbage
  • Garbage CANNOT be placed in the alley (Watson Street). It MUST be taken up and around in front of the building on Fifth Avenue every Monday night for Tuesday AM pickup! We were fined last week because multiple bags were left in Watson Street. We have garbage guidelines as well as the city pickup/recycling calendar posted on the white board right inside the Jumonville entrance.
