It's cold!

Recap

• Ham Radio classes started last Monday
  • Studying to pass the Technician Class exam
  • CMU Ham club will be doing a test next Sunday (Oct. 25th, 4pm). Everyone should be able to pass the Technician exam by then
  • Nick suggests checking out the science center which might have a Ham demo station

• Andy is re-skinning the HackPGH websites, has already done the top logo

• Door update - Marty has all of the electonics together. RFID reader can drive the solenoid to unlock the door.
  • Need to get SD card reader working
  • Need to get a replacement door handle, so we can have key access in case of power failure
  • Derrick has 12V 1kV batteries that he can donate as backup batteries

• Matt Mets' TOUGH ART exhibit is still on at the Children's Museum and is still excellent

• Heat! Dale is pricing out getting us a heater. We hope to hear from him next week.

• ioBridge presentation at HackPGH - Friday, Nov. 13
  • Hans Scharler will be coming to speak about the ioBridge, a programmable embedded ethernet bridging system (http://www.iobridge.com/)

• Soft-Circuits Class (Nov. 14th or so?)
  • Elizabeth Perry and Matt Mets will be teaching a soft-circuits class (intro to materials, button, LED)
  • Dates/details need to be worked out or Mets is a terrible person

• Nerdcore Knitting Night! - Bonnie Fri. Nov. 20th
  • Bring your crafts!
  • Listen to nerdcore music (MC Frontalot, Jonathan Coulton)

Council Update

• Due to time constraints, Nick Pinkston will be stepping down from the council to focus on his startup.
• At the next Wednesday meeting, we'll open for nominations for council election.
• Election will follow on the next Sunday.
• More details coming soon.
