Previous Events

• Dave taught a great welding class on Sunday. As usual, it was well-taught and well-received!
• Geno and Sean taught the Electronics class for new members and their children.

• Adam Longwill is teaching a Computer Building Workshop on the May 19th.
• Becky Zajdel and Bethany Klack will be teaching a Resume-writing class on May 31st.
• A group of makers and teachers from Zimbabwe is coming on May 12th to visit and observe 3D printing. We want to make sure the space is clean for their visit.
• Becky is bringing in the American Red Cross to teach a First Aid and CPR/AED class
  • We have the option of doing a six-hour class or a two-hour-online hybrid class.
  • Becky will take a poll on Slack and figure out what type of class HackPGH wants to do, and then get back to the Red Cross

Shop Updates

• Maker Faire Pittsburgh
  • We will be working with MakePGH to figure out next steps.

• Grants
  • CITF
    • The county is approving on a "rolling basis". We will hear about it when we hear about it.
  • We want to go for more grants
  • Remake Learning Grant - $2500
    • Becky is waiting to hear about this.
  • Sprout Legacy Grant - $1000
    • Becky is waiting to hear about this, also.

• Scholarships
  • Chad set up a Facebook birthday fundraiser. Chad met the $300 goal in less than a day, but it's up over $545 presently!
    • We have around $600 for free memberships.
  • More from Westminster Presbyterian Church
  • Donate button on web site

• Outreach
  • Tustin Lot Request for Proposal
    • We must vote on whether to go our own way or work with Jeremy and Daniel
      • The members have voted for doing the proposal alone (HackPGH and Meta Mesh WC)
  • Michael Walsh
    • Does sculpture and wants to work together on a project.

• Shop Improvements
  • We have a group together for shop improvements, namely the new bathroom.
  • We can get everything from brick to tile to paint from Construction Junction.
  • The whole project can generally be done for the cost of labor.
    • Rob Martin made a motion to create an Improvement Committee outside of the board.
    • We are putting the Expansion Committee in charge of the Bathroom Committee.
    • Chad will make sure that improving the bathroom is okay with our landlord.

• Classes/Training
  • We would like more members sign up to do tool training and classes.
  • Education Lead
  • We are instituting a 72-hour cancellation policy for classes.
    • If you cancel outside of a 72-hour policy, you won't lose your money.
  • Have classes booked 2 months in advance

• Donations
  • Wood Lathes
    • Sean will keep us updated about the donation
  • Printers
    • We are looking into taking a donation of a 7300 CMYK Xerox Color Printer and a Xerox 4125 B&W printer.
    • Generally, we are interested in the color printer but not the b&w printer. We will take the b&w printer as well, but if we do not find a use for the latter we will recycle the parts.
    • We are setting up a designated donations area. After two weeks, the donation gets an "up for grabs" sticker.
    • Becky will make a sign for the donation area!

• Elections
  • James is leaving us.
  • We need to elect a new board member.
  • Nominations will go up on Slack this evening!
  • Our finances are getting quite complex, so we are looking into hiring a CPA.
  • If any members know about a CPA or tax attorney who may want to donate their time, please let the board know!

Project Updates

• The small CNC is very close to being done!
  • If anyone wants to lend their help to work on the small CNC. tell Sean!
• Bob has been working on the big CNC. We need to keep that table CLEAN!
• Alex bought a robot-arm. He and Chad plan on doing a 48-hour hack-a-thon.
