HP Design Jet 500 42" printer
Quick Start Guide
To use this printer, follow these steps:
1: Ensure the printer's power cord is plugged in. It's on the left in the rear.
2: Ensure that the roll of paper is inserted into the rear of the printer in its proper slot and is visible through the window on the front of the printer.
3: Ensure that the printer is on by checking to see if there is a green light by the power button on the front left of the face of the printer. If it's not on, press it.
4: Wait for the printer to reach a stable state which takes about 60 seconds. The LCD display on the right of the printer will say "Job Management" when ready.
Now, for Windows users, download the HP Instant Print Application. Install the application, open it, and add the printer to the application. Then upload your desired image to print on the left side of the program. Make any adjustments in the program and hit print!
For Mac users, simply add the printer using the Add Printer function in the Mac settings.
Large Format Printer Information
The large format printer is an HP Design Jet 500 PS.
This is a reasonably cost-effective printer for moderately large format prints, 42" wide, up to 1200 x 600 DPI.
It's not going to produce fantastic photo prints with superaccurate, consistent colors, but it should be more than sufficient for everyday use, and relatively cheap to maintain.
The 500s is an inkjet that uses aqueous, dye based ink. Unlike solvent-based inks, it's not good for producing outdoor prints.
However, while solvent inks are extremely long-lasting, sun-fade-resistant prints, they're also very harsh chemicals and very expensive to maintain, and require expensive ink on a constant basis. Solvent printers must regularly cycle some ink through to avoid the lines and heads getting clogged; they use ink even if they're not actually printing.
