Previous Events

  • Thank you to everyone who attended last Sunday's shop clean!
  • We had to postpone Elizabeth's Pysanky class, but those who were around were treated to an impromptu demonstration by Luc Berger!
    • Please contact the Board if you are interested in attending a rescheduled Pysanky (Ukrainian egg decorating) class.
  • Power Wheels had a meeting on Wednesday the 26th. Please attend if you are interested in working on the cars. We plan on going to Akron later this summer.

Upcoming Events

https://hackpgh.org/calendar

  • The 3D Printing Club is tomorrow, August 3rd at 7PM.
    • Several club members are working their way through the Voron kit.
    • If you have experience and would like to help, participants have been leaving their updates through the kit book in the #3d_printing channel in Slack.
  • Game Night is this Friday, August 4th starting at 6:30PM
  • Both Keep Calm and Carry Yarn (6PM) and the Power Wheels Club (7PM) are next Wednesday, August 9th.
  • Chess Club has been cancelled (indefinitely) due to lack of participation.
  • A HackPGH online game of Diplomacy is being organized. Exactly seven participants are needed! Contact Kirk if you're interested.

Organization Updates

  • After the most recent election, the Board had a meeting and elected their officers and positions:
    • Becky Zajdel, President
    • Kirk Hendricks, Vice President
    • Matt Dubé, Secretary
    • Wilkes Vaughn, Treasurer
    • Lucian Chapar, Director of Operations
    • Jeremy Sweeney, Board Member-at-Large
    • Morgan Wable-Keene, Board Member-at-Large
  • We will be hosting our fourth annual vaccination clinic on Sunday, October 22nd from 1-3PM! It is FREE to the public and the pharmacists can use or look up any insurance or state aid.
    • We always need help making the shop as clean as possible for this event, so please consider attending the special shop clean on Saturday, October 21st.
    • The team from Hilltop Pharmacy will be offering the following vaccinations:
      • COVID
      • Influenza (ages under 65)
      • Influenza (ages over 65)
      • Pneumovax 23/Prevnar 20 (Pneumonia)
      • Shingles
      • Hepatitis B
      • TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis).
  • The annual "Hack-o-Ween" costume party is always popular - and it's a great (and necessary) fundraiser!
    • What would people say to scheduling it on Saturday, October 28th?
    • Please think of an item to donate to the silent auction and/or food and beverages to bring, as it is mostly pot luck!
  • A possible new event to bring in new people and a little money: a monthly (public) movie night. Other spaces do it. We could ask for a "suggested donation" and vote on a monthly movie.
    • People would be welcome to bring snacks and drinks. What do people think?
  • Safety reminder:
    • ALWAYS clean up your space and/or put tools and projects away. Even if you have a large project that needs to dry/set overnight, you MUST put a parking pass on it, clean up anything unnecessary around it, and ensure that nothing is sticking out and obstructing walking and working areas! Spencer almost lost an eye because of a large clamp sticking out into the workspace on the "dirty side."
    • On a related note, please wear safety glasses on that side of the shop. They are available at both entrances, we have types that will fit every face, including anti-fog, and they saved a member's eye!
  • Cleaning reminder: respecting each other and the shop:
    • Always clean up after yourself. We do not have janitors and the Board is not your cleaning crew. If you leave a mess in the bathroom or kitchenette, clean it up. If you take a cold water bottle from the fridge (or see that the cold waters are getting low), replace it from the room temperature water cases under the coffee bar.
    • Cleaning and volunteering is part of your membership obligation! Tired of seeing and reading about this? Others are tired of cleaning up messes!
  • CLASSES
    • Kiefer has his Stick Welding Class (full) on August 5th.
    • Spencer has his Intro to Woodworking class scheduled for August 13th. There are several spots left!
    • Kiefer's MIG welding class on August 19th is only half full, so register now if you are interested!
    • Becky is waiting to schedule any other classes! She has sent out class descriptions and can help order class materials, so please contact her if you are interested in teaching a class.
  • CLUBS
    • We have gone over the clubs in the past, but please contact us if you would like to set up a new club or event.

Treasurer's Report

  • We have $9,737.85 total.
    • We are looking into different methods of processing fees to save money.
  • The summer fundraiser will begin by mid-August and go through the end of Summer! Watch for an announcement and a shareable graphic!
    • We are thinking of setting the goal at $2,500.
    • We apologize for pushing this, but the organizer had to take a break.
    • Be prepared to share posts with your friends and family!
  • Want to help Hack make some money? Contact the Board!

Shop Updates

  • We are getting a new mill from Albany!
    • We need someone with a truck and experience towing and/or moving heavy machinery to bring it to HackPGH! Please contact the Board if you can help with this.
  • Woodworking Reorganization and Build
    • XXXX
  • Jeremy has installed of our new hard-wired smoke/fire/CO detectors!
  • Garbage: Tuesday AM is now our official main pick-up date. Jess may stop by on other dates, but the main pickup will occur early Tuesday AM (unless there is a holiday).
    • Don't forget to recycle your plastics, glass, and cans.

Project Updates

  • Does anyone have a recently completed project they would like to talk about?

Recognition for AWESOMENESS

  • Doug Smith
  • Dan Trafton
    • Thank you both for working on the woodshop organization project!
